This result inches City a little closer to the magical 50-point mark which will almost certainly guarantee Wotton’s charges play Step Two football in 2024-25.

In a game of few chances, it was Dartford who had the better of those in the first half when former City loan striker Ollie Bray twice went close.

In the second stanza, after City made a double substitution 23 minutes from time, Tyler Harvey saw a goalbound effort hit the side netting while James Melhado’s cross was deflected on target and saved by Dartford incumbent Rhys Byrne.

At the other end, Tom Harrison blocked Ronny Nelson’s shot as Dartford hunted what would have been an undeserved late winner.

“One hundred per cent it is a good point and a clean sheet is always good too,” Wotton told trurocity.co.uk. “The first half was two cagey sides feeling each other out although we moved the ball better than we had done for a while.

“There were a couple of half chances that could have gone our way and Dartford are always a physical threat with their size, long throws and the fact all free-kicks come straight into the box.

“I thought we defended all of that well but at the start of the second half, I was a little concerned as Dartford were on top for a 10 to 15-minute spell.

“I made a couple of substitutions and the last 20 minutes, I was thrilled with us. We were positive in possession, we doubled up in the wide areas, their ‘keeper makes an unbelievable save and we also have a really good chance from a corner.

“Overall, I think 0-0 is a fair result but at the same time, I’m really, really pleased with the boys tonight.”

Wotton also revealed that there was an air of frustration in the home changing room after the game, although this was something the 46-year-old wasn’t upset at seeing.

This was just one of many positives that the City chief can take into Easter games against Slough (Good Friday) and Chippenham (Easter Monday).

“A real good thing about tonight is that the boys are a bit down in the changing room and I love that,” Wotton added. “They are not settling for (a draw) and we have a fast turnaround for Friday.

“I said to them that they were terrific and I enjoyed the work rate and endeavour. We had some real togetherness and yes, Dartford had a chance near the end, when Tom Harrison makes an unbelievable block, but apart from that, not a lot else.

“Overall I am really pleased and I can take a lot of positives.”
