Craig Duff’s 21st goal of the season helped Truro City secure home advantage in the end-of-season Southern League Premier Division play-off before Shane White’s late penalty sealed a 2-1 win over league leaders Corby.

With two games remaining, Steve Tully – assisted by former Exeter City team-mate Wayne Carlisle – has steered Truro into a positive position.

Player-manager Tully admitted: “The side are on a roll. That’s three wins in a row and we’ve beaten three of the top sides in the league.

“If we get six points from the final two games and finish third, it will be a job well done by the players. If we get six points and finish second, then even better.

“The whole outlook here is positive, and it has been for some time. Now we prepare for Arlesey at home next Saturday, and hope we get another decent crowd in because the fans have been fantastic.”

Truro remain third on 83 points, a point behind second-placed Poole Town and five behind leaders Corby.

Tully added: “We have just beaten the league leaders and whether we finish second or third the important thing is we have got that home advantage. That was what we were aiming for, and the players knew that and delivered.

“Craig is confident. He says that if the ball comes to him in the box he will score. He is a player that we enjoy working with because he listens and acts upon what you say to him.

“In the first half he was caught offside a handful of times, so we told him to arc his run in the second half. He certainly knows how to finish. He puts his foot through the ball in the box and that’s how he gets goals most of the time.

“We rested Isaac Vassell but then gave him a late run-out, which worked, because he won the penalty. All our hard work is paying off and we want to keep that momentum going in the play-offs.”
