Truro City boss confident squad can handle play-off pressure (Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)

STEVE Tully says his Truro City team are well equipped to handle the pressure, ahead of a pivotal Easter weekend in their pursuit of a play-off place.

Third-placed City take on two of their play-off rivals, with a trip to Redditch Utd on Saturday and then a mouthwatering home game against Weymouth on Easter Monday (3pm).

Win those two games and City will be all but assured of a play-off place, as the Evo-Stik Southern premier division season reaches its climax.

And Tully admitted it was a massive weekend for his team after last Saturday's frustrating 0-0 home draw against Dunstable Town (see page 88).

He said: "They are two big games, but that is what we want. It is in our own hands. There are six points to play for and after Monday we will have a much better idea of our situation.

"We are not scared and will embrace the pressure. The players are relishing the challenge and it is what we play the game for. We would much rather be playing in games that matter, rather than matches that don't really mean anything.

"We were disappointed in the way we played against Dunstable, but you can't play well every week. We never looked like losing the match and it was another point closer to our goal. Once we ensure a play-off place we can look at where we are going to finish."

In January, City beat Redditch 3-2 at Treyew Road with goals from Danny Greenslade, Craig Duff and Danny Sullivan – though top scorer Duff is the only one of the three still at Treyew.

And Tully is expecting a stiff examination at the Valley Stadium from the Worcestershire side. "They are a good young side and a difficult team to play against. They need to win to get back in the play-off picture." he said.

City will be without the suspended pair of Rob Farkins and Arran Pugh, though Farkins is available for the Weymouth match. Barry Hayles is expected to be available for the Corby Town game on Saturday week after breaking his hand. Skipper Jake Ash and wife Melissa are expecting their first baby, which is due on Saturday, so he will be travelling by car for the game at Redditch.

"He is a key figure for us and hopefully he will be available for both games," added Tully.

Monday's game against Weymouth is expected to attract the biggest crowd of the season to Treyew, especially as it will feature the return of City's record goal scorer Stewart Yetton, who now captains the Dorset side and is the league's top scorer with 27 goals.

"It is a game you don't need to build up, but we are concentrating on the Redditch game first," added Tully.
