SALISBURY 1-3 TRURO CITY

Cameron Weldon

The White Tigers picked up their first three points of the season on Tuesday night after they came from behind to defeat Salisbury 1-3.

Manager Paul Wotton wanted a reaction after Saturday’s opening day defeat and a reaction was exactly what he got as second half goals from Rocky Neal, Will Dean and an own goal gave City victory in Wiltshire.

After a slow start to the encounter where neither could test the keepers, it was the Salisbury who had the first chance of the game on 14 minutes.

Their striker found himself clean through on goal, but his shot was expertly saved by James Hamon.

The home side very nearly found the breakthrough through danger man Marvin Brooks but Truro had a little helping hand from the woodwork, as the strikers header struck back off the post.

Then came Truro’s best chance of the half. Shame White lofted a great pass to the back post where Harvey was waiting but the forward couldn’t keep his header down.

Rocky Neal did superbly well to get goal side of his marker before he was pulled down by Salisbury defender Sam Roberts. The referee had little choice but to give the defender a straight red card with 5 minutes remaining of the first half.

Harvey took the resulting free kick, but his effort was well pushed away by the keeper.

Going into the second half, Truro looked to take advantage of having the extra man, but they soon found themselves behind.

A moment of miss communication at the back between defender and goalkeeper led to a Salisbury penalty. Emmanuel Obudade stood up and sent Hamon the wrong way to break the deadlock.

Tyler Harvey then rounded the keeper, but his shot hit the side netting.

Then just past the hour mark City drew level. A delightful cross from Connor Riley-Lowe found the on rushing Rocky Neal who headed the ball home to equalise.

Within seconds Truro had the ball in the back of the net again. Riley-Lowe and Neal again heavily involved. The full back linked up well with substitute Ryan Brett who picked out Neal who headed the ball down only for the ball to be turned into his own net by the home defender to give City the lead.

The home side went looking for an equaliser, but City held strong defensively and limited their chances. Hamon was forced to save a powerful strike from just outside the box.

With a few minutes left of the 90, Will Dean ensured all the points would be heading back South with us. The midfielder let fly an absolute thunder bolt of a strike that flew past the keeper into the bottom left-hand corner.

The White Tigers now have a few days to recover before they head to the capital to take on Walton Casuals on Saturday.

TRURO - Hamon, Thompson (Johnson 68), Riley-Lowe, Palmer, Richards (C), White, Dean, Barnes (Garside 84), Rooney (Brett 11), Neal, Harvey.
