TRURO CITY 1-0 CIRENCESTER TOWN

The White Tigers progressed to the First Round Proper of the FA Trophy after a 1-0 victory over Cirencester Town at Bolitho Park.

Euan Pollock’s early strike was the only goal of the game as Paul Wotton’s men beat the Centurions to set up a tie with Bognor Regis Town in a fortnights time.

With the game rearranged to Tuesday evening following a waterlogged pitch on Sunday, the White Tigers started the brighter of the two sides on what was a chilly evening in Plymouth.

Tyler Harvey cleverly won the ball back in a forward position before picking out Ryan Brett who saw his attempt blocked away for a corner.

Truro broke the deadlock on 13 minutes. Brett delivered in a cross that was only half cleared by the keeper out to the feet of Pollock who made no mistake coolly slotting the ball home to open the scoring.

Pollock then had a good opportunity to double his and Truro’s tally, but the striker was quickly closed down by the Cirencester keeper.

The striker was proving to be a bit of a nuisance to the visiting defenders as he got on the end of a Shane White cross, but his header was straight at the keeper.

Brett than came close to a Truro second as the midfielder headed a Niall Thompson cross just wide of the target.

Both Dan Rooney and Will Dean then saw tame efforts saved as Truro continued to hunt for a second goal.

Temporary loan signing Luke McCormick, who came in for the suspended James Hamon then denied the visitors from their first real chance. The Cirencester striker tried to curl the ball into the corner but instead hit his shot straight at the Truro goalkeeper.

Pollock was then played clean through on the brink of half time, but his attempted shot was superbly saved to keep the score at only 1-0 at the interval.

Into the second half and Truro’s dominance continued.

Dean saw a powerful shot pushed away for a corner following a smart reaction save from the Cirencester shot stopper.

Ryan Dickson and Ellis Johnson were introduced, and the former was into the action straight away.

The experienced midfielder clipped a ball over the top for the on rushing Brett who looked to finish low into the bottom corner but was again halted by a good save.

As the game drew to a close Harvey headed a Brett corner over the bar as the tie finished with just the one goal.

The result now means it’s back-to-back wins for the White Tigers who are back in league action this weekend as they travel to Wales to take on Merthyr Town.

TRURO: McCormick, Thompson (Johnson 61), Riley-Lowe, Diabate, White, Richards (C), Dean, Brett, Rooney (Swan 90), Pollock (Dickson 61) Harvey.
