BOSS PREVIEWS CITY'S CAPITAL TRIP

BY GARETH DAVIES

Boss Paul Wotton says Truro City are ‘in a good place’ ahead of a trip to Hampton & Richmond Borough in Vanarama National League South.

Despite suffering successive home defeats in his side’s last two outings, the City boss believes spirits are high in the camp ahead of a trip to the capital.

Truro will be hoping to continue a fine run of form on the road which has seen Wotton’s troops yield four wins from five attempts, in games before and after the festive period.

Those victories saw City lower the colours of Dover Athletic, Torquay United, Weston-super-Mare and Chelmsford City. Truro’s only defeat away from ‘home’ came against FA Cup giantkillers Maidstone in early December.

“It is going to a really difficult challenge at Hampton because we are on the back of a couple of poor results,” Wotton told trurocity.co.uk. “Hampton are in a similar position too, so both teams will be looking to bounce back from a series of defeats.

“They have been in the play-off positions pretty much all season so fair play to them because they have some excellent players.

“They are well managed so we are under no illusions that it will be a tough ask, but we have had a good week ourselves.

“I’ve reflected on the Braintree performance and watched it back a couple of times. I thought that on a very difficult surface we were excellent.

“Second half there were very fine margins in the game unlike the Wothing match when we got well and truly beat. The Braintree game we didn’t and I thought we were good for large spells.

“We have had two good training sessions this week and we will go to Hampton in a good place and looking forward to it.”

Wotton strengthened his squad this week with the loan additions of midfielder Ryan Kavanagh from Cardiff City along with Aldershot Town striker Ollie Bray.

Both will go straight into City’s matchday squad while Wotton gave an update on those players currently sat on the sidelines or carrying knocks.

“Ben Adelsbury is highly doubtful I would say,” he added. “We have had a long-term injury in Billy Palfrey and he has started jogging this week, but he is a long way off playing for us.

“Adam Porter has had a slight thigh problem which ruled him out of the starting line-up against Braintree. He was back in full training on Thursday and should be back in the full squad.

“Other than that, we are OK and didn’t come out of the Braintree game with any fresh concerns.”
