The 21-year-old said new management and ambition of the Club has helped bring him to Cornwall

Truro City Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of Democratic Republic of Congo Under-21 international Harlain Mbayo for the 2019/20 season.

The 21-year-old defender, who went through the youth structure at Belgian giants Anderlecht signed on Sunday for the White Tigers and has said he is looking forward to the season ahead.

Harlain played for Aberdeen for the last four years but finished last season playing at Wigan. It was the new management at Treyew Road, plus the thrill of the Club being run in a different way, which has drawn him to Cornwall.

"I really thought that playing a season with these managers would be beneficial for me," said Harlain. "Under them I'm able to develop and get the game time I want. It's a good club to be at."

"I know there is a brand new Stadium on the cards," he added. "The way the Club is being run at the minute; it's going in a good direction and can only help my career."

As well as the off-field potential of Truro City, Harlain says he is hoping the on-field experience will be a great boost to his career.

"I've made my plans plain," he added. "I want to finish as high as possible and move the Club back to where they belong. I'm trying to finish as high as we can and look for promotion."

Harlain is looking to move down to Cornwall for the year and is looking forward to discovering more about the County. However, he is also planning on putting in the hours on the pitch and at training.

"I'm going to make sure I'm doing more training than the average. Truro City is shaping up to be a decent side," he added.

Manager Paul Wilkinson said he was delighted that Harlain is making the move down to Cornwall.

"He's a great talent with a great work ethic," said Paul Wilkinson. "He's started training strong and we can't wait to see him in action with the rest of the team later on Friday when we take on Exeter City in our first pre-season fixture of the year."
