NIGHT TO FORGET FOR THE WHITE TIGERS

Cameron Weldon

IT was simply a night to forget for the White Tigers as we fell to a disappointing 2-0 reverse to Taunton Town.

In front of a crowd of over 600 we failed to build on Saturday’s win as goals either side of half time from Dan Sullivan and Nick Grimes succumbed us to our first defeat in over a month.

The hosts started quickly and were at us from the off. James Hamon was forced into a stunning save to push away Andrew Neal’s effort for a corner before they broke the deadlock.

The ball fell to the feet of Daniel Sullivan who’s shot took a massive deflection on the way through which caught Hamon off guard as it flew into the far corner for 1-0 with just thirteen minutes on the clock.

City struggled to find any sort of foothold in the game as the home side dominated proceedings. Ben Adelsbury saw a shot go wide of the target before Sullivan headed over.

Going into the second half we started he stronger of the two sides and we should have equalised ten minutes in. Niall Thompson beat his man before finding Harrison Davis at the back post who headed just over the cross bar.

Up the other end the hosts doubled their lead. Ryan Brett swung in an inviting corner which was powerfully headed home by Nick Grimes to put the game to bed.

We kept fighting till the very end. Tyler Harvey saw a free kick hit a resolute Taunton wall while Niall Thompson fired a shot high and wide after a Will Dean corner was comfortably cleared.

James Ward had two late opportunities, but he failed to hit the target with both as Taunton saw the game out meaning we suffered our first defeat in the league since August.

A disappointing night for the White Tigers in Somerset who will want to bounce back straight away on Saturday as our BuildBase FA Trophy campaign begins as we welcome Blackfield and Langley to Treyew Road.
