CITY CRASH OUT OF FA TROPHY

Cameron Weldon

The White Tigers have crashed out of the FA Trophy after a 3-1 away reverse to Blackfield & Langley, in the First Qualifying Round Replay.

We found ourselves 2-0 down with ten minutes to play until Tyler Harvey pulled one back, only for the hosts to go up the other end and add a third.

Following on from Tuesday 1-1 draw at Treyew Road, a replay was required to see who progresses to the next round to entertain Kingstonian on Wednesday evening.

On a very wet Hampshire afternoon, we struggled to get a real foothold in the tie as the home side started the stronger.

James Hamon was on hand to make a smart save inside the opening four minutes as the hosts came out of the traps quickly.

They weren’t to be kept quiet for long. Kasimu turned Jamie Richards before firing past a helpless Hamon to break the deadlock.

City failed to really test the Blackfield keeper but Tyler Harvey did see two headers go wide of the target before the break.

The hosts started the second half like they did the first, on top. They soon added a second. Plummer did superbly well out wide before dribbling past two defenders and firing low into the corner to give his side some daylight.

Truro introduced Mbayo and Battle to try and get back into the tie. Both Thompson and Battle then had shots blocked as we looked for a late opening.

We did pull one back through Tyler Harvey who hammered in the chance into the top corner, giving the keeper no chance.

But there was to be no late comeback as our hosts went straight back up the pitch on the breakaway to wrap up the tie with a close range finish from Gwengwe.

Our FA Trophy campaign is now over for this year. We now turn our focus back to the league as we welcome Hartley Wintney to Treyew Road on Saturday.
