CLARETS UP NEXT FOR CITY

BY GARETH DAVIES

Truro City go in search of consecutive home wins for the first time in 2024 with promotion chasing Chelmsford City the visitors to Meadow Park this evening.

City were victors against Taunton Town last Saturday after suffering six defeats in their previous Vanarama National League South encounters.

It was a thoroughly deserved three points for Paul Wotton’s side who took the lead after just six minutes when Tom Harrison poked home from close range.

Taunton were very much second best in the opening stanza as City twice hit the woodwork with efforts from Dan Rooney and Andrew Neal. Overworked Peacocks custodian Dan Lavercombe also made a string of fine saves to keep the score at just 1-0.

The second period saw Taunton threaten the City goal and somehow, Zach Smith and Ross Stearn contrived to miss the target when inside the six-yard box, during the same passage of play.

But City withstood Taunton’s improvements after the break and went further ahead when Ed Palmer headed Will Dean’s corner home.

Taunton then had a glorious chance to halve the arrears from the penalty spot but Stearn’s poor effort was kept out with ease by City incumbent James Hamon.

Truro then saw the final 20 minutes of the game out with ease to prevail 2-0.

INJURY NEWS

“We have a few knocks,” boss Paul Wotton told trurocity.co.uk. “I think Ed Palmer, Tom Harrison and Rocky Neal are all 50/50 at best. Other than that, we are okay.
“Billy Palfrey is getting some game time with the reserves today because he has been out for a long, long time which is great news for him.”

IN OPPOSITION

Chelmsford are second in the National League South standings, behind runaway league leaders Yeovil Town.

Robbie Simpson’s side were defeated by fellow promotion chasers Worthing on Monday evening, with this the first loss Chelmsford have suffered since they were somewhat surprisingly defeated by relegation threatened Havant on February 3.

The Clarets have the best away record in the division currently and prior to the loss against Worthing, had picked up five wins and a draw in their previous six games.

LAST TIME WE MET

The two teams met at the Melbourne Community Stadium back in November. Goals from Sam Sanders and Harvey Greenslade saw City triumph 2-1 over the 10-man Clarets.
