TWERTON PARK CLASH UP NEXT

BY GARETH DAVIES

Truro City are on the road for a third consecutive game in Vanarama National League South tonight with a trip to Twerton Park to face Bath City.

Paul Wotton’s side will go in search of their first win since defeating Dover Athletic 2-0 on January 6 in North Somerset.

Last time out, City were defeated 3-2 by mid-table Farnborough at Cherrywood Road. They fell behind to Aaron Kuhl’s 25th minute penalty conversion after Tyler Harvey was adjudged to have handled in the box.

But eight minutes before the break, a corner wasn’t cleared and Tom Harrison found Ed Palmer who duly dispatched with his left foot. And City could have been sitting on an interval lead but Connor Riley-Lowe’s deflected shot hit the post with Ollie Bray firing the follow-up into the side netting.

Into the second stanza and Harvey went close before Farnborough’s Ricky Holmes headed his side into the lead. Less than five minutes later and City were level thanks to Adam Porter’s finish into the top corner after hesitancy in the home defence was pounced upon.

The game appeared to be petering out into a draw until the 88th minute when Hady Ghandour stooped low to head past James Hamon in the Truro goal.

INJURY NEWS

Only Billy Palfrey remains on the sidelines for City's first visit to Twerton Park for five years.

Ben Adelsbury is now fully fit after being hampered by a groin problem which he first suffered in the 4-1 home defeat against Worthing on January 13. The 33-year-old was an unused substitute in City's last game against Farnborough.

IN OPPOSITION

Bath City occupy fifth place in the National League South standings and are firmly in the promotion race.

Despite their recent fine form and position in the table, the Romans have fared better on their travels, compared to games at Twerton Park.

But that indifferent home form has been turned around in recent weeks with three consecutive wins for Bath in front of their own supporters. Both Dartford and Eastbourne Borough were defeated 1-0 and last time out, St Albans City were on the wrong end of a 3-1 loss.

Goals from Tom Smith, Richard Chin and James Alabi secured the win for Bath while St Albans could only muster a consolation in added time thanks to Shaun Jeffers.

ROMANS' ONE TO WATCH

Cody Cooke needs no introduction to City fans after spending seven seasons with Truro from 2011 to 2018.

The striker, now 30, cut his formative footballing teeth with his home town club Penryn Athletic before moving to City for the start of the 2011-12 campaign. And during his subsequent seasons spent at Treyew Road, became a firm fans favourite.

It was of little surprise that Cooke decided to take an opportunity in the professional game and he moved to the Scottish Premiership with St Mirren in the summer of 2018. But a combination of injury and managerial changes at St Mirren Park saw his opportunities limited.

Cooke's most significant combination in a Buddies shirt came when he bagged a fine second-half hat-trick in a 3-2 win away to Dundee at Dens Park as St Mirren battled relegation from the Scottish top flight.

After two years north of the border, Cooke moved back to the South West and joined Weymouth, who had just been promoted to the top tier of National League football.

He made 17 appearances and scored twice for the Terras before moving to Twerton Park. Since joining the Romans, Cooke has been prolific in front of goal and already this season has found the mark 14 times in all competitions.

LAST TIME WE MET

City hosted Bath in early September with the spoils shared after a 1-1 draw.

Tyler Harvey, playing against his former club, put Truro ahead with a low strike after just six minutes. Former City striker Cody Cooke and Scott Wilson both went close for the Romans who were heading for defeat until the dying embers.

The visitors were awarded a free-kick and a Dan Hayfield stepped up to beat Jamie Pardington in the City goal to deny the hosts all three points.
