HARROW BOROUGH 6-3 TRURO CITY

Cameron Weldon

It was a day to forget for the White Tigers as they slipped to a 6-3 away defeat to Harrow Borough at Earlsmead Stadium.

Despite leading early on, and then coming back to 3-3 in the second half, City fell to their first defeat of 2022.

It was a dream start for Paul Wotton’s men who opened the scoring inside the opening minute of the game.

Rio Garside was fouled on the edge of the area. Tyler Harvey stepped up and placed the ball into the top corner to give Truro the dream start.

City had chances to double their advantage. Zac Hartley saw an effort rattle back off the post while Rocky Neal hit a shot narrowly over the cross bar.

Harrow then came close as an attempt was pushed out by James Hamon to the feet of their top scorer James Ewington who somehow failed to hit the target with the rebound.

He didn’t need asking twice as he quickly equalised for his side on the brink of half time. He latched onto a defensive error before firing low across goal into the corner for 1-1.

Into the second period and Harrow started well and they quickly took the lead as James Mansfield bundled the ball home following a scramble in the Truro box.

A third came soon after as Ewington found spaces before slotting the ball into the net.

Truro didn’t let their heads drop and pulled one back five minutes later. Rocky Neal got on the end of Will Dean’s corner to finish to make it 3-2.

The home side then rattled the cross bar before Truro won a penalty. Neal stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to level the scores with just over 20 minutes to play.

Harrow then took the lead controversially. Frank Keita headed home from close range despite strong calls for not only a hand ball but also offside which the referee ignored.

Things then went from bad to worse for City as Ewington completed his hat-trick with a header that beat Hamon.

Anthony O’Connor added a sixth for the hosts with a great strike into the corner with his very first touch to end an afternoon full of goals at Earlsmead Stadium.

An afternoon to forget for White Tigers who will want to bounce back as soon as possible and they have the perfect opportunity to do so on Tuesday evening as they take on Tiverton Town at Bolitho Park.
