Commenting immediately after the surprise defeat : City's boss confirmed what every Truro supporter thought as well : “We were woefully short of people to put the ball in the back of the net! Far too many chances not converted! That was our downfall tonight. How many crosses did we have, how many corners? If it was a boxing match, it would have been stopped. But unfortunately, as we know, it’s not like that in football!”
The match was billed as one to put Saturday’s result well and truly behind the team, but instead we are still left waiting for our first league home win of the season.
Changes, as expected, were made from Saturday with Liam Eddy and Seb Broomfield both starting upfront, while Jordan Copp was back in the midfield.
Although Ben Wood looked lively upfront for the visitors, it was still City who should have gone in front but they failed to turn their possession into goals. This was probably summed up best by Broomfield being just inches away from touching in an Eddy square ball in added on time of the first half.
To make matters worse straight after half-time when Eddy went wide in the opening minute of the second half, the ball went straight down to the other end of the pitch and the Frome breakaway finished with the referee Mr Bennett pointing to the penalty spot after Ollie Chenoweth brought down Wood. The ‘keeper picked up a yellow card for his misdemeanor and to make matters worse, Frome, next to bottom before the start of tonight’s match, took the lead through Ryan Laville’s successful penalty.
A minute later and City went so close to levelling the contest from a number of opportunities in a goalmouth scramble. Firstly Broomfield had a glancing header pushed away by Frome’s No 1 Darren Chitty, the loose ball was picked up by Eddy who’s effort was blocked with Broomfield having a back heel attempt knocked away before the 6 yard goal action finished with Matt Andrew firing wide.
Phil Lowry, Jamie’s brother, came on for his debut in place of Broomfield, but before he went close to breaking the duck for City, they were really up against it after conceding another soft goal. Chenoweth allowing a shot from Frome’s left back Mark Cooper to go through him and into the far corner.
A two goal lead that proved, on the night, far too big a margin for the toothless White Tigers!
