On the road for the first time this season, City had to settle for a point from their visit to Bashley last night.

However this hard fought contest will no doubt be remembered most by the Truro City contingent for the bad arm injury suffered by left back Warren Daw in added on time, coming just seconds after the home side had levelled the match.

There were two changes from the starting eleven that played Bedford Town on Saturday with FA Vase winner Dan Stevenson appearing in goal replacing unavailable Olly Chenoweth, while Ollie Brokenshire was preferred to Jed Harper-Penman

City started brightly and took the lead 8 minutes into the game when Shane White knocked a Jake Ash cross back towards the goal and the ball ended up in the back of the home side’s net coming off defender Gary Middleton.

The first half was then held up when one of the assistant referees could not continue after pulling up with a hamstring problem and after a 10 minute break the game resumed with Jordan Copp having a shot go wide and Liam Eddy looking lively upfront.

In the 40th minute City doubled their lead with another goal being questioned as to which team should get the credit. Midfielder Jared Sims’ shot was goalbound, but did touch a defender on the way in!

The massive amount of added on time however allowed Bashley to pull one back before the break, as Jack Odam showed a clean pair of heels to Dan Evans before placing the ball wide of Stevenson into the far corner.
On the restart City were forced back and our goal became under a lot of pressure with Stevo by far the busier goally. Substitutions were made to freshen things up with George Swain making his Calor League debut in place of Sims and Lewis Coombes coming on upfront for Eddy.

Stevo made a great save, diving to his right to palm away a Charlie Knight shot while Broomfield was introduced to go alongside Coombes, Copp the man to come off just minutes after picking up a yellow card for a high boot while Swain fired in a right-footed effort which went wide.

As time began to run out for Bashley, their anxiety showed through with tackles and dissent leaving the referee no option but to show them 2 yellow cards in a six minute spell as Broomfield also received one as well, but in the end the pressure paid off. With 90 minutes on the clock, ex-Torquay United striker Tom Sills jumped above everyone else in a crowded Truro penalty area to head home and leave both sides drawing their first two games of the season.

News this morning on Warren Daw is that he will be out for at least two months and so we wish him well in his recovery.

Meanwhile, for the next game, away at Hinkley on Saturday, we welcome back vice-captain Paul Kendall.
