City secured a deserved point from their opening league match of the season with a Jordan Copp penalty a minute into added on time.

Truro went in front in the 32nd minute under controversial cirumstances. Skipper Jake Ash played a great pass out to the right, picking out Les Afful from 40 yards away, but for a moment it looked as if the winger might have fouled Jordan Jarrold. With the referee Andrew Bennett waving play on, Afful made the most by shooting across the Bedford goal and into the far corner of the net.

The visitors’ manager Lee Bearman felt so incensed about the incident that after remonstrating with the offiicals, he was asked to leave the Bedford dug-out.

On the 38th minute, Jordan Davis had a golden opportunity to equalize for Bedford when he picked up a loose square pass from Copp, but ‘keeper Ollie Chenoweth remained on his feet and was able to knock the effort on goal away, however the first-half finished all-square when Andrew Phillips levelled two minutes before the break.

Early in the second half Bedford, who started the brighter of the two teams, went in front when a Jarrold free-kick from almost on the half way line was allowed to bounced over City’s back line, deceive Chenoweth and into the top corner of the net.

City gradually hauled themselves back into the contest but after Shane White half-volleyed against the Bedford cross-bar, time running out and the full complement of substitutions being made, it looked as if on a wet and windy afternoon, it might be a fruitless opening match for manager Steve Massey’s new look side.

However with the game into added on time, Massey told Ash to stay upfront and it was the Truro skipper who was fouled in the box for the referee to point to the spot and Copp save the day.
