NARROW DEFEAT TO TITLE HOPEFULS
By Truro City Football Club
1-0 reverse at the hands of Woking...
THE WHITE Tigers slipped to a narrow 1-0 home defeat at the hands of title-chasing Woking at Treyew Road.
It was a cagey opening with chances at a premium at either end in the early exchanges.
After winning a series of free-kicks, an inviting ball into the danger zone from River Allen which found Jared Lewington and his effort brought a smart save from the visitors’ ‘keeper.
The visitors went close shortly afterwards before Nick Grimes saw a header land just over at the other end.
Just before the half-hour mark the visitors grabbed the lead when a strike from distance by Little flew beyond the reach of Harvey Rivers.
Despite the set-back we continued to produce some neat passages of play as Niall Thompson and Tyler Harvey both went close.
The opening period was closely-fought and early in the second half, a chance opened up for Harvey but he could only direct his header straight at the ‘keeper.
There was a blow for City when Louis Rooney joined the action but was to last barely ten minutes before he was forced off through injury as we searched for an equaliser.
As the clock ticked down, Connor Riley-Lowe delivered a free-kick that caused problems for the visitors but they managed to scramble clear before Harvey could latch on to the loose ball.
Whilst we were pushing for a leveller, it meant that our opponents were a threat on the break and there were occasions where we had to defend resolutely, with Jamie Richards in particular leading by example.
Try as we might, we just couldn’t find a way through as Woking, who included our former skipper, Ben Gerring amongst their back-line, clung on to their one-goal lead to take three points home with them.
Once more there were plenty of positives to come from the performance.
