2018 ends on a high for The White Tigers...

THE WHITE Tigers had a successful day on the road as we brought 2018 to a close with a commanding 4-1 win at Hungerford Town in a game which saw Tyler Harvey bag all four goals.
We started the game on the front-foot with Leigh-Gilchrist going close early on as he looked to cut through the home defence before Dan Rooney was denied by a smart save.
The opening exchanges saw us looking purposeful and posing a number of questions. Lewington had a header saved from a free-kick before Allen dragged an effort wide in the next raid.
The goal that we had threatened came from the penalty spot as Harvey stayed cool to convert.
It acted to bring the home side to life as Anderson saw an effort flash just wide of the target whilst Whittington put a free-kick over the crossbar.
The home side were able to level matters on the 20-minute mark and they went close to adding another soon afterwards through Jones.
We managed to soak up the pressure in the wake of the equaliser and regained the lead on 25 minutes when Harvey despatched another spot-kick.
Harvey completed his hat-trick within a couple of minutes when he was able to head a corner home having got away from his marker.
We still had to be wary of the home side as Rivers did well to thwart them on a couple of occasions.
There was plenty of action at either end as Harvey fired wide and then Lewington was denied by a timely intervention as he prepared to pull the trigger.
With a 3-1 advantage going into the second period, there was a more cagey opening to the second half.
It was the home side who went close to reducing the arrears as they found Rivers in good form to keep them at bay.
Just past the hour-mark and the lively Harvey was unlucky as he struck the woodwork but he didn’t have to wait long for his next chance and this time he was able to round the ‘keeper and slot home to make it 4-1.
With the travelling contingent in good voice as the clock ticked down, Leigh-Gilchrist saw an effort saved and then a free-kick from Riley-Lowe sailed just wide.
There was a late injury to Tom Richards as he was forced to leave the field with concussion and as we’d used all of our substitutes, we ended the game with ten men on the field, but it mattered not as the hard work had been done to secure a good three points.

WHITE TIGERS: Rivers, Thompson, Riley-Lowe, Grimes, J. Richards, Harding (Hurst 55), Leigh-Gilchrist, D. Rooney (T. Richards 61), Allen, Harvey (Pittman 75), Lewington. Subs not used: L. Rooney, Bentley.
GOAL(S): Harvey (4).
