On a heavy surface, City found the early going tough and fell behind after just seven minutes when Luke Williams got in a low strike that beat Martin Rice.
The goal gave the home side confidence and they continued to drive forward with Rice having to be at his best to deny them a second goal on the quarter-hour mark.
City refused to let their heads drop and started to get into their stride with a couple of half-chances before a neat moved ended with Niall Thompson threading the ball through to Rocky Neal whose effort was well saved.
The home side hit back and managed to double their advantage on 33 minutes when Warren Bentley hit a sweet strike that flew into the net.
The White Tigers had Rice to thank for a number of smart saves, whilst James Clark wasted a great chance as he fired wide after breaking through.
Our resistance was broken on the stroke of half-time when Stefan Brown added a third goal to give City a mountain to climb in the second half.
It didn’t take long into the second period for the home side to extend their lead even further when they were awarded a penalty which Brown tucked away.
With the game over as a contest and the rain continuing to fall heavily, there was little in the way of serious goalmouth action as the second period went on.
There was still time in the final minute for Brown to complete his hat-trick and make it 5-0 to the hosts.
