MATCH REPORT - Welling United 3 Truro City 2 - 14/04/2017
THE WHITE Tigers fell to a 3-2 defeat at Welling United on Good Friday.
There was a cagey opening to the game with neither side able to take the initiative, although Truro were seeing plenty of the ball.
Our first attempt saw Chris Todd off target before Alex Cathline went close at the other end.
As the home side started to get into their stride, Cathline saw another attempt saved by Tom McHale before they took the lead just before the half-hour when a free-kick found the head of Ben Martin who made no mistake.
Further chances came for the home side in the wake of the goal but they were pegged back before the break when Rocky Neal did well to get in an inviting cross which was turned past his own ‘keeper by Martin.
It gave us something to build on in the second half and it wasn’t long after the break before we took the lead when some sharp play ended with Dan Smith putting the ball into the danger zone where Neal was on hand to finish with aplomb.
The home side were brought to life and almost levelled straight away as The White Tigers were forced to scramble an effort off the line. Then McHale did well to deny Murrell-Williamson.
The pressure continued with Danny Waldren going close before the equaliser arrived as Murrell-Williamson planted a free-kick beyond the reach of McHale.
A deflated Truro were hit again two minutes later when Tyrone Marsh did well to set up a shooting chance for himself which he fired into the roof of the net.
Chances were few and far between for Truro to get back into the game as the clock ticked down with Smith having our best opportunity to get anything out of the game, but it wasn’t to be.
TRURO CITY: McHale, Bentley, Hartridge, Todd, Richards, Smith, Adelsbury, Cooke, Neal, Harvey, Thompson. Subs: Afful, Pugh, Yetton, Brett, Allen.
