MATCH REPORT - Truro City 1 Ebbsfleet United 1 - 08/04/2017
THE WHITE Tigers put in an impressive performance to share the spoils with Championship-chasing Ebbsfleet United at a sun-kissed Treyew Road.
It was a purposeful start by Lee Hodges’ men and we went close to opening the scoring in the eighth minute when the ball was half-cleared into the path of Cody Cooke who fired over.
We continued at a good pace as Rocky Neal was unlucky to hit the woodwork on 21 minutes.
This was developing into a committed and hard-working display from City and our efforts during the opening period were duly rewarded right on the stroke of half-time when Ben Adelsbury found the neat with a sweet free-kick.
It gave us a deserved lead to take into the second period but our visitors were able to hit back eight minutes into the half when Sam Derring was able to beat Tom McHale.
Buoyed by the goal, Ebbsfleet looked to up the pressure and they almost took the lead just past the hour-mark when they struck the crossbar before the next raid saw Ben Gerring defend well to clear the danger.
A free-kick went close for the visitors but The White Tigers were defending doggedly whilst also posing questions of our high-flying opponents. One such situation saw Neal cut inside and get in a powerful strike that the ‘keeper did well to gather.
With the clock ticking down, a teasing ball flashed agonisingly across the face of the City goal whilst the excellent McHale had to receive treatment having taken a knock making another important save to keep the scores level.
The closing stages saw Tyler Harvey put a free-kick from a promising position just over, whilst at the other end McHale made another smart stop and with that came the final whistle as it ended with honours even.
