With both Rory Fallon and Louis Rooney away on International duty and Jack Smith recalled by Eastleigh, allied to the injured Cody Cooke, manager, Lee Hodges, was short on numbers. New loan signing, Tyler Lyttle, started the game with fellow new-boy, Erik Panzer, on the bench.
It was a sluggish start from City and our visitors took advantage as early as the third minute when a corner caused problems and Keaton Wood was able to fire home following a melee.
There were half-chances for City as Niall Thompson fired over and Aaron Bentley had a header gathered by the ‘keeper, but it was Dartford who looked the most likely side and they duly doubled their advantage before the half-hour when Andy Pugh headed home a teasing cross.
The third goal came on the stroke of half-time as some sloppy play ended with Pugh feeding Duane Ofori-Acheampong who raced away before slotting home beyond an exposed Tom McHale.
There was still time for Andrew Neal to see an effort tipped over by the visitors’ ‘keeper in stoppage time at the end of the first half, but The White Tigers went in at the break three goals behind and with a mountain to climb.
City came out of the blocks brightly at the start of the second period without causing our visitors too many problems and it was at the other end when the first real action of the half came as McHale did well to deny Ofori-Acheampong from close range.
The fourth goal duly arrived on 64 minutes when another cross from Hayes picked out Ofori-Acheampong who this time got the better of McHale.
With the game won, Dartford took their foot off the pedal and they coasted through the closing stages with Alex Brown rounding off the scoring with a fifth goal to complete a miserable afternoon for The White Tigers.
