Truro City cruise to impressive win at Bath to end 2015 in style (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)

Bath City 0 Truro City 3

Truro ended the year in terrific style with a comprehensive National League South win at Twerton Park.

Two goals just before half time by Dan Green and Isaac Vassell, plus a superb Ryan Brett effort at the start of the second half gave the visitors three well deserved points.

They could even afford the luxury of Shane White missing a late penalty as they cruised to an impressive win to boost their play-off prospects as they moved up a place in the table to eighth.

The visitors took command of the game with two quick goals just before the break.

After 38 minutes Green finished well at the far post after Matt Wright had headed a Brett free-kick from the right back across goal.

And it got even better for Truro two minutes later when a horrible mix-up between Bath keeper Steve Phillips and defender Dan Ball gave Vassell the easiest of chances to run the ball into the empty net.

Up until those goals there had been little between the two sides who began the game separated by just two points in the table.

Early on Green and Cody Cooke had efforts saved by Phillips, while at the other end Jack Batten headed a Frankie Artus free-kick against the post with Martin Rice blocking Ben Adlesbury's follow up effort.

Bath striker Nick McCootie also squandered a chance when his control let him down as he was put clear, allowing City to deal the danger.

But as the half wore on City began to gain the advantage with Brett heading over a Vassell cross and Cooke forcing a smart save out of Phillips.

And after Green and Vassell had struck any hopes of a Bath revival were effectively ended in the opening minute of the second half when Vassell pursued a long ball and did well to lay the ball off to Brett whose first time finish gave Phillps no chance.

Rice made a couple of excellent saves to keep out efforts from McCootie, but the Truro defence was generally in total command.

And when Sekani Simpson brought down sub Les Afull in the 75th minute it should have been 4-0 but the normally deadly White blasted wide.

It did not matter though as City completed a great away performance and will now be hoping to do the double over Bath in the return at home on January 2.
