Truro City snatch late equaliser to stretch unbeaten run to 11 (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)

Hayes & Yeading Utd 2 Truro City 2

A last gasp equaliser from skipper Jake Ash earned Truro City a draw as they fought back from 2-0 down to extend their unbeaten National League South run to 11 games as they moved up to sixth in the table.

Ash headed home in the final minute of normal time to give City their sixth away draw of the season after Les Afful had given them hope with a goal midway through the second half.

It was no more than the visitors deserved and they would surely have returned from York Road with all three points if not for an inspired display by home keeper Dan Lincoln who produced a string of outstanding saves.

But in the end they were glad to take a point to keep their fine run going.

"I thought it was going to be one of those days, said manager Steve Tully.

"Their keeper was unbelievable but we kept going and got the least we deserved. It was important we kept the run going. Our subs made a big difference when they came on which is what I have been telling the players that it is a squad game. They showed great character and spirit."

Truro started the game the better creating several good chances but fell behind after 27 minutes when they failed to clear a corner and debutant Omari Alexander-Salmon scored from point blank range with a free header.

And nine minutes later Matt Jay, who was making his debut after joining on a month's loan from Exeter City, made it 2-0 with a good finish after cutting inside from the left and finding the far corner.

Playing down the slope in the second half, City pushed the home side back but due to goal keeper Lincoln's heroics, it was not until 17 minutes from time that a good finish from Afful who found the far corner after being fed by Ollie Knowles in the right half of the area, got them back into the match.

And when, with time almost up, sub Danny Barrow's free kick from the right was headed on on by a home defender into the path of Ash six yards out the City skipper made no mistake with his first goal of the season as he powered home a close range header past Lincoln, and City could make the trip back from Berkshire with their long unbeaten record intact.
