Gosport Borough 3 Truro City 1
City went down to their first away National League South defeat of the season, as the unbeaten home side came from behind to win after Matt Wright had headed the visitors in front.
But City boss Steve Tully said he was pleased with the performance and certain that the results would come if his side continued to play like they had done against the Hampshire side.
He said: "We have just got to take our chances. Everyone must stand up and be counted when it comes to putting the ball into the net.
"And hopefully we can start doing that against Oxford City on Monday. I am certain we have a side which can compete at this level."
City, who played Shane White in a new holding midfield role, took a deserved lead after 27 minutes when when Wright headed home a Dan Green cross.
But Gosport hit back to level eight minutes later with a close range header from skipper Brett Poate following a Ben Harding cross, ensuring the sides went in level at 1-1.
After the break there was little in the match, before two goals in quick succession effectively decided the points, following Truro defensive errors.
After 64 minutes, Ben Harding made it 2-1 and two minutes later Dan Wooden added a third.
There was no real way back for City, who will look to regroup for Monday's home match with Oxford City (3pm) when they will be looking for what would be only their second win of the season.
The day had not started well for Steve Tully's men when central defender Ed Palmer, on being told by Tully he would not be involved in the Gosport game, tweeted to effectively imply he would be leaving the club.
But Tully said as far as he was concerned Palmer, who is under contract, was still a Truro player and he wanted him to stay.
He added he would be talking to the defender over the weekend.
