Truro bounce back to claim first win of the season (By Lee Hall, West Briton)

Truro City 2, Concord Rangers 1

TRURO City came from behind to claim their first Vanarama National League South win of the season at Treyew Road on Saturday.

After last weekend's opening day draw at Margate and Tuesday night's disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Hayes & Yeading, City showed much more character on Saturday to bounce back, having trailed to Tony Stokes' third minute strike.

But two goals early in the second half from Shane White (penalty) and Matt Wright turned things around for City, and they could have won by a bigger margin against a Concord side that had won its opening two games.

Tully was furious after watching his side go a goal down inside the opening three minutes, as Stokes sent his header past Martin Rice from Steve Cawley's cross.

City responded, creating a host of chances, including a thunderous free kick from Ed Palmer, which rattled the bar.

The hosts, in front of a disappointing crowd of 366, continued to create opportunities after the break, and with the half just a couple of minutes old they were level.

Skipper Jake Ash was nudged in the back by Max Cornhill and initially referee Adam Penwell pointed for a free kick. But following City's remonstrations and the intervention of his assistant, the Weston-super-Mare official awarded a penalty, with the incident clearly occurring inside the box. White stepped up and made no mistake, ramming the ball powerfully into the bottom corner.

And just minutes later City led through the most straightforward of goals. Aaron Dawson whipped over a corner and Wright rose to plant his header into the net.

The game threatened to boil over in the closing stages as Concord fought desperately for an equaliser. And their frustration got the better of them in injury time when Stokes was red carded for a stamp on Rob Farkins.

City will be looking to make it back to back wins when they travel to Sutton United on Monday evening.
