BATH CITY 2 CITY 1

City suffered a second consecutive defeat on the road with their colours lowered by promotion chasers Bath.

A first half penalty conversion by Truro old boy Cody Cooke, and Tom Smith’s low finish just after the hour mark, put the Romans in command.

Bath thought they had wrapped things up 12 minutes from time when Scott Wilson had the ball in the net, only to be denied by an offside flag.

But credit to the visitors, who kept plugging away and Connor Riley-Lowe struck in the first of five additional minutes to set up a grandstand finish.

And Truro went close to snatching an unlikely point when substitute Ollie Bray fired across the face of goal before Ryan Law poked over when unmarked in the six-yard box.

Before the late drama, City boss Paul Wotton made two changes to the side which started the game at Farnborough last time out. Andrew Neal returned to lead the line alongside Tyler Harvey with Bray dropping to the bench.

After close to six weeks out with a groin problem, Ben Adelsbury, playing against one of his former clubs, took his place in the City rearguard. This saw Will Dean move to his more favoured midfield berth after starting in a defensive role against Farnborough.

Adelsbury’s first start since January 13 saw Ryan Kavanagh drop to the bench while for Jerry Gill’s Romans, Cooke, with 14 goals to his name so far this term, started against his former employers.

After a tepid opening 10 minutes, Bath had the game’s first chance of note when City custodian James Hamon kept out Dan Hayfield’s header from point blank range. Shortly after, Richard Chin curled the ball just past the post before he was forced off with a hamstring injury.

Being forced into an early change didn’t have any kind of detrimental effect on Bath and after 27 minutes, they went ahead. Outstanding midfielder Ewan Taylor drove into the box and after he went down, referee Morgan Conn awarded a penalty.

Up stepped Cooke to send Hamon the wrong way for the game’s opening goal.

But falling behind saw Truro come to life and Harvey headed wide when unmarked before Riley-Lowe’s goalbound effort was blocked by Joe Raynes.

With the interval approaching, home custodian Josey Casa-Grande had to be quick off his line to deny Andrew Neal.

City started the second stanza in similar fashion with Ryan Brett heading over after a Will Dean corner wasn’t cleared.

Those chances being passed up were to come back and bite Truro however as Tom Smith turned home substitute Elliott Frear’s cross just after the hour mark.

Bath then almost put the game to bed when skipper Kieran Parselle headed a corner from the outstanding Ewan Clark onto the woodwork.

As the 90-minute mark approached, Riley-Lowe curled a shot narrowly wide before Scott Wilson bundled home from close range, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

Truro then found another gear in five minutes of stoppage time with a Dean corner once again causing panic in the home box. Riley-Lowe hit the ball towards goal and it was cushioned back to him by Neal, before Truro’s play-off hero from last season lashed the ball home.

A grandstand finish was set up and Bray found himself in the clear but his cross was overhit with Neal hunting a tap in. And in the final action of note, Law couldn’t keep his shot down after the ball fell nicely to him eight yards from goal.
