Truro City respond after boss Tully reads riot act (by Kevin Marriott, West Briton)

Truro City manager Steve Tully revealed he read the riot act to his players during half-time against Arlesey Town at Treyew Road on Saturday afternoon.

Ciy, already assured of a play-off place in the Evo-Stik Southern premier division, went on to win 3-1 after trailing 1-0 at the break.

And Tully said: “I didn’t hold back at half-time, a few home truths were said because you can’t just go through the motions at this level.

“The players needed to be told that their performances were not acceptable.

“Against the wind in the first half we were terrible. We were 1-0 down, we could have been 2-0 down and we ought to have been down to ten men.

“We were lucky to still be in the game. I felt Tom (McHale) should have been sent off for handball outside the box, and Arlesey had a perfectly good goal ruled out for offside.

“But I was delighted with our second half performance. Matty Wright, who was our best player by a distance, got the goal he deserved and Cody Cooke came off the bench to get a goal too.”

Tully conceded that the gusting wind blowing down the pitch from the clubhouse end had not helped the flow of the game.

But he said: “You have to adapt to those sort of conditions and in the first half we didn’t do that. We were playing long, high balls that kept getting caught in the wind.

“In the second half we did the right things at the right time and we might have ended up with several more goals to show for our dominance.”

City, who stay third in the table, complete their league fixtures at Histon next Saturday before the play-off semi-final at home on Tuesday April 28 – the opposition still to be decided.
