Truro City win but it comes at a cost as key defenders face bans (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)

Slough Town 1 Truro City 2

Two goals by Isaac Vassell gave City three more precious points in their charge towards the end of season play-offs, but it came at a cost with defenders Rob Farkins and Arran Pugh collecting their tenth and 15th bookings of the season respectively, meaning they face two and three match bans.

Vassell struck first after 21 minutes following a mistake by home keeper Williams and then three minutes into the second half after his first effort was blocked by Williams.

But the home side set up an anxious finale after 55 minutes when Rob Farkins was penalised for handball, with Scott Harris beating Tom McHale from the penalty spot.

And to make matters worse the City defender was booked for the tenth time this season meaning he faces a two game ban.

It was one of five City yellow cards of the match, one of which went to Arran Pugh on his 200th appearance for the club and that was his 15th of the campaign and he now will be banned for three games.

City though held firm for a vital win which keeps them fourth in the Evo-Stik Southern premier division table, five points clear of Hungerford Town who drew 1-1 with sixth-placed St Neots Town.

Promotion rivals Weymouth won 1-0, Corby Town 2-1 and leaders Poole 2-0.

City boss Steve Tully said he was delighted with the three points and was glad his defenders' bans came now rather than later in the season with the play-offs looking likely.

"We have cover with Ed Palmer coming back so I think we will be fine," he said.

"In the first half we played some great football and could have been two or three up. The penalty lifted them but we showed plenty of steel and guts to seen the game out.
