Truro City's unbeaten run comes to an end at Chesham

Truro City boss Steve Tully admitted his promotion-chasing side had suffered a “bad day at the office” as their seven match unbeaten run came to a disappointing end in Buckinghamshire.

The scoreline was a repeat of opening day of the season in the Evo-Stik Southern premier division and Tully admitted Chesham had deserved the win, in one of only three games to escape the bad weather.

Tully said: “It was a bad day at the office. We looked lethargic, but we still had enough chances to have taken something from the game.

“Chesham were the better side and deserved the win. I think we just ran out of energy.”

Despite the defeat, which followed the gruelling 1-1 draw at Weymouth on New Year’s Day, City are still fifth in the table ahead of the visit of leaders Corby Town next Saturday.

“It is a big game for us,” said Tully.

“We have 19 games to go and I think ten wins will get is in the play-offs and that is the target I have set the players.

“We need to step up and make sure we don’t fade away.”

Tully made three changes to his starting line up, with Ed Palmer returning after suspension and there was also returns for Arran Pugh and Barry Hayles, with Dan Green, Cody Cooke and Matt Wright dropping to the bench,

But the game began badly for City as Ryan Blake netted after eight minutes when City failed to clear an Ashley Smith corner.

That was the way it stayed until 20 minutes from time when Simon Thomas finished well to effectively kill the game.

And the home side added a third four minutes from time when Luke Allen cut in from the left and found the far corner.

City are next in action at Paulton Rovers on Tuesday evening in the Red Insure Cup.
