Burnham FC 2 Truro City 2 match report by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton

Burnham 2 Truro City 2

City came from 2-0 down at half time to claim a point which lifted them up one place to ninth in the Southern League premier division.

In a game, which kicked off 15 minutes left because the match officials were delayed by traffic, City were second best in the first half and found themselves 2-0 down after 26 minutes as they were outplayed by the home side.

Nicke Kabamba put the Buckinghamshire side ahead after 15 minutes, with Tom O'Regan making it 2-0 11 minutes later as City were second best in every department in the opening 45 minutes.

But after a few half time truths from manager Steve Tully and his coaching team, City were a transformed side in the second period.

It took them just seven minutes to pull a goal back when Cody Cooke made a good run before crossing to the far post to give Isaac Vassell a simple finish.

Boosted by the goal, City piled forward and drew level after 65 minutes when Rob Farkins headed home after good work from Shane White's cross.

And from then City looked capable of going onto win the match, but were unable to find a third.

City boss Steve Tully said: "After being 2-0 down I am delighted to have got a point, but in the end disappointed we didn't get all three.

"We were terrible in the first half and needed a shake up. But in the second half we were a different team."

City: Moore; White, Pugh, Farkins, Long; Green, Brett, Ash; Cooke, Watson, Vassell. Subs: Hayles, Afful, Duff, James, Searle.

Referee: Ellis Clark.

Crowd: 109.

City are next in action at home to Frome Town on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).

BLUES DRAW WITH TRURO IN A FAST AND FURIOUS TUSSLE
by Admin at Burnham FC

Entertaining fixture with a fair result at the finish

In front of a disappointing small crowd fans from both sides were treated to a fast and furious and very entertaining fixture.

Burnham, had some new players on show, whilst Truro had players returning from injury.

The game flowed well from a delayed kick off, the match officials arriving late.

The early part of the first half was dominated by Truro who were clearly determined to get an early goal from the start.

However they will have been disappointed. The Blues quickly got the measure of their opponents when, in the16th minute Nicke Kabamba was put through by a fine looping through ball to unleash a corker from 20 yards out to give the statuesque Kyle Moore no chance. A memorable goal.

More followed, when Tom O’Regan side footed in from 15 yards to give the Blues a deserved 2 – 0 half lead.

Truro re-grouped in the 2nd. period and unleashed a sustained attack on the Blues goal. The defence creaked but held its shape and dealt with the pressure well.

Sadly Truro’s Isaac Vassel managed to stab the ball in at 53 minutes, which just evaded the diving fingertips of Alex Lynch to give cause for hope for Truro.

At 63 minutes Truro were awarded a corner which found the head of Rob Farkins whose diving header from the far post was enough to bring the equaliser.

The final period was very cut and thrust. The best chance fell to Tom O’Regan , just before the end fired over with only the keeper in his way.

The Blues had a good day today but still seeking that elusive home win. With Canvey Island coming up next Saturday they will be very confident of a win in that game.
