Truro City clinch place in Cup quarter-finals (by Rhod Mitchell, West Briton)

In came reserve keeper Kyle Moore, along with Kieran Parker, Myles James, Shane Krac and Dan Green, with Charlie Burns, Danny Greenslade, skipper Jake Ash, Ben Gerring and Isaac Vassell making way.

And despite the new look line up, City began well taking the lead after 13 minutes when Les Afful finished well after good interplay between sweeper Ed Palmer and Shane Krac, who was making his first City start.

It got better for the visitors two minutes later when some more fine approach play ended with Afful crossing for Hayles to finish at the far post.

City could and perhaps should have been further ahead at the break but were unable to kill the tie off.

And just before Ben Lacey pulled a goal back for the home side after 67 minutes, Rob Farkins was so close to making to 3-0 with a far post header.

In the closing stages City had to defend well with Moore making some good saves and the visitors also suffered a blow when substitute Cody Cooke had to go off with a hamstring problem which makes him a doubt for Saturday's big home league game against promotion rivals Corby Town (3pm).

Speaking after the match City boss Tully said: "It was good to bounce back after Saturday and now it would be nice to get a home tie after three matches away from home in the competition."

Paulton fail to take chances in game they dominated (match report by Tony Walsh)

Paulton lost out to Truro City in the third round of the Southern League Cup sponsored by Red Insure.

Paulton paid the penalty for missed chances, hitting the bar twice and not being awarded what appeared a blatant penalty late in the second half.

Ed Palmer thundered a powerful free kick well held by Rovers keeper Kyle Phillips.

Truro went ahead on 14 minutes when les Afful beat the offside trap to beat Phillips. Two minutes later veteran Barry Hayles got on the end of a knock down from Palmer to tap home to make it 2-0.

Rovers rallied and Brandon Barnes hit the post and Mitchell page hit the rebound wide. Then Barnes intercepted a cross field ball and found Darren Jefferies whose shot was fisted away by visiting stopper Kyle Moore.

Paulton were a different side in the second period and for better finishing should have taken this cup tie.

Page set up Jefferies who hit the post, then Clayton Green's firm shot was well held by Moore. On the hour Ben Lacey broke in from the left and his shot was blocked by Arran Pugh. Green crossed for Page to head goalwards.

The break through was on sixty seven minutes sub Scott Wilson chipped over the Truro defence for Lacey to race on round the keeper to make it 2-1.

Six minutes later Pugh appeared to blatantly handle the ball in the area, but inexplicably the referee awarded a free kick to the visitors.

Jon Davies came on for Paulton and hit several goal bound efforts and Wilson lobbed over the bar from 30 yards out.
