Manager Steve Manager is unable to explain how we lost

Despite leading on two occasions, City’s FA Cup run came to an abrupt end at Brislington this afternoon as the Western League side ran out 3-2 winners to reach the 3rd Qualifying Round for the first time in their history.

It was also a defeat that left manager Steve Massey so disappointed he was lost for words about a game he never thought his side would lose. “Twice in the lead, 10 to 15 minutes before the half-time break we got a grip on the game. But then there’s a lack of concentration, we switch off and we lose a fantastic opportunity as well a lot of cash for the club! ”

Truro were in front after 10 minutes when Cody Cooke fired in an unstoppable left-footed shot that finished with the ball nestling in the corner of the Brislington net, coming down off the underside of the cross-bar.

The home side levelled the contest in the 21st minute through a Niekell Plummer glancing header, but two minutes later City regained the lead when Neil Slateford shot through a crowd of players after Brislington failed to clear a Paul Kendall ball lobbed back across the penalty area.

The one goal advantage stayed with City until the 53rd minute when Brislington made the most of a corner not being cleared and central defender Danny Barwood hammered home from ten yards.

With the tie looking as if it was heading towards a midweek replay at Treyew Road, Olly Brokenshire came on for Jordan Copp and within two minutes a shot from the substitute could only be parried out by Brislington’s ‘keeper Chris Humphries for Slateford to touch home, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Soon after at the other end, Plummer got another header on goal, but Ollie Chenoweth was right behind it this time.

Paul Kendall, back in the side after missing two games and captain while Jake Ash is still out troubled with an injury, headed over a free kick from Les Afful, but disaster struck for Truro with eight minutes left.

A break down the right finished with Lambert pulling the ball back for Mike Rimmer to slot home the winner after getting away from the City defenders.

A goal conceded far too easily and summed up by Massey saying : “Anything delivered into our box is looking dangerous at the moment!”

It was the killer blow and leaves Steve Massey realising a lot of serious thinking and hard decisions will have to be made over the next couple of weeks.
