When matches in play get abandoned by the referee there is a procedure to go through with the relevant authorities which inevitably takes time.

When you play very competitive football at National level, matters can get even more complicated especially when three points are at stake for both teams. Given this, initial statements are issued in accordance with the rules of the game along with apologies. We can say, without question nobody wants a game abandoned, least of all when you have every chance of success.

The loss of electricity supply at Treyew Road on Saturday 14th November 2015 during the Truro City vs Hemel Hempstead match where the referee abandoned the game at half time was caused by a Western Power phase failure at their Sub main. In this situation the National League rules state that the Club playing at home is not obliged to issue a refund or voucher.

That said we sought clarification as to the possibility of providing free entry for the replay, today we are pleased to say that we have received confirmation that the Truro City v Hemel Hempstead Town match (subject to FA Trophy) will be played again at Treyew Road on the evening of Tuesday 15th December 2015 Kick-Off 19.45hrs and that we have been given dispensation to allow the admission to be free (under rule 21) in recognition of the inconvenience caused to both teams’ loyal supporters on that day.

In addition we will provide the Hemel Supporters free Hospitality through the Truro City Supporters Club as compensation for their wasted journey. For those people who did not attend the abandoned match this is now an opportunity to watch National League South football being played at the highest level in Cornwall for free and show your support.

The correct procedures have been followed by Truro City and we again issue our apologies to all who have been inconvenienced by this occurrence which was clearly beyond the Club’s control. We sincerely hope that the above will go some way in helping to put this unfortunate incident behind us.
