Unbeaten run extended...

THE WHITE Tigers extended our unbeaten run with a 3-2 victory over Dulwich Hamlet that was full of character.
On a heavy surface that was only deemed playable following an inspection by the referee upon his arrival at the stadium, we made the perfect start within the opening two minutes when Niall Thompson’s cross found River Allen who lashed the ball home.
With our tails up, we looked to add to our lead early on as Allen did well to win the ball and find Dan Rooney who curled his effort just over.
We were asking all of the early questions as we refused to let our visitors get into their stride and a neat move involving Thompson and Lewington ended with the latter firing over before Lewington turned provider for Jon-Paul Pittman who was just off target.
Our early dominance was rewarded with a second goal on the quarter-hour mark when Pittman’s effort took a wicked deflection that wrong-footed the ‘keeper to make it 2-0.
At the other end, Harvey Rivers was a spectator but he was alert to deny Voje and then produce a fine stop to thwart another raid from the visitors.
After Allen picked up a yellow card, Rivers was called into action again as a corner caused problems and he did well to save from close range as Austen Booth cleared the rebound off the line.
It signalled a period of pressure from our opponents and we had to work hard to defend our two-goal lead with Jamie Richards in particular leading by example.
Clunis and Allen both went close for the visitors as the clock ticked down in the opening period but our resistance was finally broken when another teasing corner caused problems and whilst the initial strike was blocked, Carew was able to guide the ball home.
The second half started with Allen rattling the woodwork for Dulwich before Rivers saved well from Voje, all within the opening few minutes.
We were having to weather the storm, during which time Booth was booked, but despite the pressure, we almost nicked a goal with our first foray forward of the half as Pittman fired into the side-netting.
The equaliser arrived for our visitors on 54 minutes through Clunis and at this stage it was a real test of character for our boys and just past the hour-mark we breathed a huge sigh of relief as a goalmouth scramble ended with former Torquay man, Allen, firing over from a good position.
With Jamie Richards holding things together we were able to keep our opponents at bay as they pressed for a winning goal.
Our efforts were rewarded when substitute, Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist, restored our lead with six minutes to go as he beat Edwards.
There was a great chance for Lewington to make the game safe, which he failed to capitalise upon, but it mattered not as we held on to claim all three points and extend our unbeaten run.
