New Truro City boss Lee Hodges knows he has a tough task ahead of him to better the achievements of last season when the club reached the National League South play-offs, but is confident the White Tigers can again challenge for promotion.

On his first visit to Treyew Road, since being appointed for a second spell in charge , after the club decided not to renew Steve Tully's contract, the popular Hodges outlined his initial plans for the coming season.

And first he wants to find out who is staying from last season's squad which finished fourth in the table before deciding what new players he needs to bring in.

He confirmed that Les Afful and Ben Adelbsury had agreed terms to stay, joining Tom McHale, Arran Pugh, Cody Cooke, Aaron Bentley, Jamie Richards and Shane White from last season, while the Bodmin Town pair of striker Rocky Neale and midfielder River Allen are two new signings.

Ollie Knowles has promised to give a decision by the end of the week, while Ryan Brett has been away on holiday, with Isaac Vassell's situation as yet unclear.

Striker Matt Wright has joined Taunton, with Martin Rice and Aaron Dawson signing for league rivals Gosport Borough, with Jake Ash (who has joined Bodmin), Pierce Mitchell and Craig Duff all being released.

Matty Jay and Connor Riley-Lowe have returned to parent club Exeter City where Dan Green is now fully involved with community football and unable to commit himself to Truro.

"When I know who is staying I can see who we need to bring in," said Hodges.

"We have a competitive budget and it is no good saying we are aiming for a mid-table finish, we will be going for promotion."

Hodges will be assisted by player-coach Rory Fallon, with the former Plymouth Argyle striker currently on his way back from World Cup duty with New Zealand, while Ian Leigh and Deba Sidhu will continue as physio and goalkeeping coach respectively.

The new league season starts on August 6 with the fixtures due out on July 6.
