White Tigers fully focussed on the task in hand as we set out on the FA Cup trail...

THE WHITE Tigers set out on the Emirates FA Cup trail on Saturday with an away tie at Winchester City.

Our hosts are members of the Evo-Stik Southern League Division One South & West, where they sit in 20th place in the table with four points from their opening seven League games, but City boss, Lee Hodges, is wary of the threat that they will possess.

“They’ll raise their game,” he insisted. “They are the underdogs and will be determined to cause an upset.

“There are going to be upsets this weekend, but we will make sure that we are ready for the fight to ensure that it doesn’t happen in our tie and we give ourselves the best possible chance to make it through to the next round.

“It would be great to have a good Cup run. It’s a competition that I have always loved and I have some happy memories of it from my time as a player but not as many as a manager so far.

“Like any non-League club, we want to make it through to the first round proper, but we can’t think any further than Saturday at the moment because we know that we have to approach this game in the right way and our focus has to be spot-on.

“This club is due a decent run in the FA Cup and it will help us in so many different ways. We go into the game with a bit of momentum having been unbeaten in our last three games.

“We’re starting to get some consistency in the way that we are performing; I’d have liked a few more points on the board, but we’re moving in the right direction and that’s the main thing.

“The lads have to stick together. We’ve not got the biggest of squads and the busy schedule takes its toll, but everyone is working hard and showing the right kind of spirit and determination.

“The fans are also playing their part; they make plenty of noise and are giving us the kind of backing that we need to be able to kick-on.

“Hopefully they will travel in good numbers on Saturday and really get behind us because they are vitally important to us.”

There is prize money of £4,500 up for grabs for the winner of the tie.
