Jake's playing career at Truro City comes to an end after 11 years and 394 appearances

11 years
394 appearances
59 goals
6 promotions
1 FA Vase

Those numbers can only describe the career of one man at Truro City Football Club - captain Jake Ash who has now played his last season for the club.

Jake's contribution on the pitch is beyond question - the numbers speak for themselves. Less well appreciated, perhaps, is his role off it. The managers he has played under all speak of the importance of his presence in the dressing room and of the way in which he welcomed new players into the club and made them feel part of the team.

And he was there through the difficult times in 2011 and 2012 when the club went into administration and suffered relegation. Chairman Peter Masters recalls Jake's vital role at that time as a point of stability within the team and as a link between the players and the new owners.

Not that any proof was needed, but the regard in which Jake is held was demonstrated at his testimonial last summer, when almost all of the 2007 FA Vase winning team returned to Treyew Road for a game against Torquay United.

Jake will undoubtedly take some time to think about his future plans now but he's made it clear that his involvement in football is far from over. And hopefully Truro City will be part of that with the potential for working with club's youth development programme, particularly after the move to Silver Bow next July.

The phrase 'club legend' is thrown around a bit too easily in football these days, but in this case there's no doubt about its appropriateness. The club wishes Jake and his family all the very best for the future.
