Football fans will be canvassed on TCFC relocation proposals on Friday night

Support football, support this club!

Football fans will be canvassed on TCFC relocation proposals.

Football fans attending the England-Wales Under 18 match at Truro City Football Club this Friday 27th February, will be asked for their support for a brand new stadium for the Club, at Silver Bow. The proposal will guarantee the future of TCFC, bring superb new facilities with the potential for further growth and introduce a Youth Academy to encourage the next generation of football stars.

The proposed site for the relocation of TCFC is part of a deal with Helical Retail, who plan to build a retail park – Truro City Shopping Park – on the current ground at Treyew Road. Funding is in place and, subject to planning consent for both sites, the developments are ready to go.

Peter Masters, Chairman of TCFC, said, “This is a great opportunity, not just for the Football Club but for Rugby as well. We are proposing a quality stadium, which we will happily share with the Cornish Pirates, giving them a new home too. It will give the area a new sporting facility, which it has long deserved. What’s more, unlike other proposals in the mix, all we need is the go-ahead…there’s no waiting for the funding to make it happen as we have already secured that with Helical.

“It’s a win win situation and very exciting for all concerned but I can’t stress enough how much we need to demonstrate support for this scheme. I’m calling upon all our fans and everyone who is interested in sport for all, to back this proposal and let the Council know just how serious we are.”

Jonathan Cox, Managing Director of Helical Retail, said; “We are absolutely committed to making this new stadium happen but it is reliant on us securing planning consent for both the proposed Truro City Shopping Park and, of course, for the Silver Bow scheme. I would like to thank TCFC fans and local people for all the support we are receiving, it is very important that the proposals are welcomed locally.”

Visitors to TCFC on Friday will be handed a leaflet outlining the plans for the new stadium and asked to complete a simple tear off slip, to show their support. This is part of an ongoing period of consultation with local people and other interested parties. The Club is hoping for a 3,000 strong crowd at Friday’s match, the first International game to be held in Cornwall.

The new site at Silver Bow will provide:
• 4G playing surface for greater usage
• A practice pitch
• Flood lighting for both
• New club house with a room for the Youth Academy
• Covered stand with 250 seats
• Additional 250 seated stand
• Covered terrace stand
• Room for future stands
• 120 car spaces and coach parking
• Close to Park and Ride, bus routes and easy to access A30
• TCFC will own the freehold

Cornwall Council will consider the planning application for Truro City Shopping Park on 12th March. Meanwhile, a planning application is being prepared for the proposed new TCFC Silver Bow stadium, for submission in the next few weeks.
